Children of the Revolution

EDIT: In regards to the KONY thing, I admit my enthusiasm for the campaign has waned a great deal. I am friends with people who luckily have the ability to look at things analytically while I'm chasing my emotional tail in circles like a really upset dog. And I know thanks to many MANY debates and discussions, we're all on the same page-- something needs to be done-- but sending in foreign military isn't the answer. Obviously, Kony needs to be stopped, but we need more answers and safer solutions. This paragraph is just a little apology to my friends who had the patience to understand my point of view, and to give me the wisdom of theirs.

I'm sure you've already heard about KONY2012 and if you haven't you live under a social media rock that is probably slowly crushing the life out of you. Allow me to lift the rock-- you help-- by encouraging you to click that link. Yes that one right up there.

After that, it's all up to you. And me. And everyone we know to pick up the pieces and move forward. I can't get this song out of my head... Forget the shitty slideshow video, and just embrace the music.

This campaign gives me hope for the world and the kids and the internet generation.... I don't know. Hope in general. That someone has a plan to take what connects us, what divides us, what logs us in and shuts us off and plans to use it for the power of GOOD. That someone has been fighting for this for so many years already and now we're nearing the final push? It's-- I've been trying to cut back on my use of the word-- AWESOME and AWE-INSPIRING and AWWEYEAH.

I know it's going to be huge right now, I only hope the generational enthusiasm doesn't wane over the year. I'm sure some people will forget, or some people will never care, but for those that keep it up-- who carry the hope with them.... It's for those people my heart truly beats.

I am LOVING this.

In more boring news: I had my Starbucks work review. I perform all my duties ADEQUATELY. I am adequate. That's pretty freakin' righteous, bean there, done that. (GROAN.)

I'll be hosting my FIRST EVER COFFEE TASTING SEMINAR ON THE 21ST OF THIS MONTH. You heard it here first. I'm going to put my money where my macchiato is and lead people through a COFFEE TASTING EXPERIENCE. Shit. I'm doing it already.

Good vs. Bad

THE BAD STUFF

I got up at 4:15AM to go to work at 5AM this morning.
I was supposed to be up at 4:15 this morning to get my ass into work for 5AM, but instead I ended up learning a couple of things about life. I don't REMEMBER getting up walking to my desk and turning off my alarm clock. I do remember Telly nuzzling my face, checking my cellphone which magically was under my pillow and gasping in horror at the time. (Sitcom situation impending!)

• 5:30AM (the ACTUAL time I woke up) still looks like the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.
• Cats make good alarm clocks.
• If people don't USUALLY compliment you on your work glasses but they're noticing them today, you put them on in the dark and wore your hipster goggles to work by accident. Also, you're still half asleep.

Usually when I have anxious freak outs it's because I make some sort of mistake, so today had me on the brink. When I apologized sincerely (it was a Mona Lisa of an apology, trust me) to my manager she honestly seemed to care less about my accidental tardiness than I did. Still, it bothered me for the rest of my shift. I was in a bad way, and it was adding on to some of the feelings that have been following me around. Egging the Bear on, so to speak.

Despite my own promises to live with joie de vivre and making up a new motto to go with it, I have to confess kids, I've been feeling in a rut lately. A rut that is threatening to turn into a trench. Unless I do something about it... I have a plan and a possible opportunity but I don't want to write about it until it's a little more certain. (Ooh. Mysterious.)

THE GOOD STUFF
After work, I got home, chilled out for a little bit and then popped out to do some errands.
I went to the library and saw a dream car in the parking lot: a red Mercedes 560SL. I love the boxy look of old Mercedes and gawked at it like a construction workers eye up ladies in films from the 80s. (Yeah, I rhymed, what?) It's a serious head turner.

In terms of books I picked up On the Road by Jack Kerouac (for hipster cred), a book about writing/planning novels to try and sort out some ideas for this year's NaNoWriMo, and Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston, the book/man upon which the movie 127 Hours is based.

Then I went to the grocery store and bought smiley fries (Hellyeah,my one weakness) and strawberry soy milk. Which I then had for lunch, because I am not a BORN health nut. When I finally arrived home from having a huge sneeze attack, I also discovered my new Aldo boots had arrived!

The goods today outweigh the bads, something I'm grateful for in a day that got off to a less than settled start, and I'm proud of myself for keeping it together and moving on over dwelling on it like I usually do.

Aztec & Aqua

I have officially started my job at Starbucks! (WOO!) So far it's been a lot of coffee tasting, and trying to learn the secret language of the Barista. I don't speak Starbuckian fluently, not yet anyway. Of course, today was only my second shift. I got up at 5:30 IN THE MORNING to be at work by 6:30. It's a good thing my latest direction is taking me down a road paved with coffee beans or I'd pass right out by the time I got there. I'm enjoying it so far. Also I'm about two shifts away from becoming a coffee snob, too.

I'm really hoping to try and get some creative juice going, to maintain a good writing&blogging schedule while working two jobs at the same time. Oh yes, having a life might be fun too, in there, somewhere. Also naps. Also, running. Good lord, it's no wonder I was forced into using a day planner!

Anyway, my shift was only four hours of training this morning, so I decided to get some errands done at the mall before I punched my daily run right in the FACE. I ended up wearing something that I thought was unusual and bright, so I decided to snap a couple pictures in the name of colour!

This picture reminds me of Yoshi from Super Mario.

Is that crazy?
I started with the pants then pulled on the shirt because of the blue and aqua in the pattern. Keeping with the print, which seems a little outdoorsy, kind of Native American or Aztec, I threw on the boots. Maybe it's not the COOLEST thing I've ever worn, but it's bright and comfy for the errands I had to run today. Plus, I felt good wearing it which is the most important thing. Also, I didn't take a picture of it, but my prized bag ended up with this outfit too, along with some red lipstick and a naked eye. Love it!
